The crew members experience various dramas…
The year is 2205. An abnormal surge in nuclear fusion suddenly begins within the sun. Three years remain until the sun will explode as a supernova, leaving only one year for humanity to survive on Earth.
The defense force commander decides to send Yamato on a voyage to find a new planet, and appoints Susumu Kodai as its captain. Shima and Sanada become vice-captains, and Yuki Mori becomes the head of the living section, bringing together many familiar faces. In addition, Takeshi Ageha and Ryusuke Domon join as new crew members.
The day of Yamato’s departure is approaching. At that time, new recruit Ageha is suddenly relieved of his duties. Ageha’s father is the chairman of the Ageha Corporation, and he asks the commander to relieve Takeshi so that he can inherit the company. However, when Takeshi visits his mother, who is hospitalized with an illness, she tells him, “live your own life,” and he returns to Yamato.
Furthermore, communications chief Aihara falls in love with a woman he meets at the airport on Southern Cross Island, and he agonizes over whether he should leave Yamato for her sake. But he is a soldier after all. He returns just before Yamato takes off. Yamato’s crew takes to the skies, each with their own thoughts and feelings.
Dessler appears!
Having had his ambitions thwarted when he attempted to invade Earth, Dessler subsequently established the Galman Empire, a cosmic scale interstellar nation, in the core of the Milky Way galaxy. He then embarked on a great war with other interstellar nations, plotting to conquer the universe. The sun’s sudden and abnormal increase in nuclear fusion was actually caused by a stray missile from their battle.
Yamato’s attempt to discover a second Earth in the direction of the galaxy’s center will inevitably lead to conflict with various interstellar empires. Dessler, with a kind of samurai spirit, recognizes Yamato’s strength and also harbors favorable feelings toward Earth.
They initially lend their advanced scientific power to control the sun. However, when the constant increase in the sun’s nuclear fusion continues unabated, they launch a war to kill humanity, whom they consider to be inferior.
Thus, Yamato finds itself engaged in a fierce battle against the powerful Galman Empire unleashed by Dessler! Dessler will appear on TV and meet Kodai face-to-face for the first time around the new year holiday. Let’s look forward to it!
Highlights to watch out for in the future
The love story between Susumu Kodai and Yuki Mori symbolizes the theme that “the true way to love someone is to believe in them.”
Then there is the relationship between New crew members Takeshi Ageha, Ryusuke Domon, and others. Takeshi is a genius, but Ryusuke is a hard worker. A powerful force. Because they are formidable rivals, they are at odds, but their hearts are United on important matters. It’s a male friendship that shows a lot of grit.
It can be said that a new and unprecedented highlight of Yamato is that Ryusuke in particular has an affair with Princess Ruda. The latter half is centered around their meeting. He will be performing exceptionally well, so keep an eye on him. Princess Ruda is like Starsha or Teresa, but Leiji Matsumoto is currently working hard on the image of the character. What kind of beauty will she be?
Many interstellar nations appear in this series, but one that longs for peace in the galaxy is particularly noteworthy. It is inhabited by people who are completely non-resistant and possess no weapons whatsoever. In fact, the encounter with this planet is a crucial key to Yamato III.!
We asked Director [Eiichi] Yamamoto about his struggles
As a series goes on for a long time, there’s a tendency to try to create new highlights. But the Yamato series takes the approach of presenting the same aspects that have that have been well-received so far, without changing them. However, it seems that creating the same visuals as before is extremely difficult.
Technically speaking, they use laser beams this time. The method is to use conventional transmitted light, but apparently using a single laser beam as a light source creates a more realistic atmosphere. For example, it seems they will be using it for scenes like instruments on Yamato and cathode ray tubes.
When they tried to include a memorable scene in the broadcast, they searched for old animation cells, but couldn’t find any, and they didn’t have the original art either, so they hastily cut the scene.
