Be Forever Yamato REBEL 3199<\/em> Chapter 5: The Incandescent Galactic War<\/em><\/h2>\n

I watched Chapter 5. This is a record for myself (and also serves as a report).<\/p>\n

I’m afraid anything I write will contain spoilers, but as I’ve done in the past (for Chapters 3 and 4), I just can’t help but write about Yamato<\/em> and Star Trek<\/em>, so please forgive me. Of course, comments are welcome.<\/p>\n

As expected, it was incredibly interesting!<\/p>\n

To be honest, since it was before Chapter 6 and the final Chapter 7, I thought it would be a connecting story, so I was prepared for a certain slowdown in the pace and excitement, but I was wrong. It was so interesting, I can’t wait to see Chapter 6.<\/p>\n

From here on, there will be major spoilers! Please be careful.<\/p>\n

What really moves me about this remake of Yamato<\/em> is how much it respects the storyline from 2199<\/em>. This fifth chapter also builds on the previous chapters, 2199, 2202<\/em>, and 2205<\/em>.<\/p>\n

I’m really happy about that. There are plenty of scenes and developments that make you feel that way. Also, for those familiar with Star Trek<\/em>, be careful, as the following may contain major spoilers. The first Star Trek<\/em> film stars Chris Pine as Kirk. If Montgomery Scott were here, he’d probably be raving. If Spock were here, he might even have said, “Fascinating.”<\/p>\n

Even so, I never expected that final scene in Chapter 5. I’m surprised to learn that the tagline, “The last minute changes everything,” really meant that. I really can’t wait to see Chapter 6. I’ll have to stay healthy until then!<\/p>\n

Yamato 3199<\/em> Chapter 5 was amazing<\/h2>\n

I’m writing this on the train on my way home from seeing Chapter 5 at the Shinjuku Piccadilly, feeling quite excited. It contains major spoilers, so please read at your own risk.<\/p>\n

1. The homages to the original are amazing!<\/span><\/h3>\n

As you can see from the trailer, the main event of Chapter 5 is the battle with the intermediate supply base, and it’s full of nods to the original, in terms of direction, camera angles, dialogue, and more. I was grinning and leaning forward in delight.<\/p>\n

For example!<\/p>\n

There was Yamato<\/em>‘s main guns punching into the intermediate supply base after the phase conversion shield was gone, then the light on the wall of the narrow corridor when the Cosmo Tiger Unit entered the base and it went streaky (you get the idea, right?), then the scene where the anti-aircraft guns at the base reach out like tentacles (you get the idea, right?), and then the final explosion!<\/p>\n

And finally, the performance when they leave the space-time node…the warp dimension!<\/p>\n

Oh! I forgot! And the performance when they do continuous warps too!<\/p>\n

There were probably a ton of others, but I’ve only just finished watching it the first time, so these are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. Wow, it was really fun.<\/p>\n

2. The music is amazing!<\/span><\/h3>\n

I’ve thought the music has been amazing since the first chapter, and even since 2199<\/em>, but this time the timing and song selection were especially exciting. Whether it was Yamato Advances Through Unknown Space, The Giant Battleship Grodez<\/em>, or The Battle of Planet Shalbart<\/em> (I can’t quite remember the song titles).<\/p>\n

And above all, The Bolar Federation!!! I’ve never seen the Bolar Federation look so cool before.<\/p>\n

Even a dead tree can add to the life of a mountain!!!<\/p>\n

That’s a great saying, lol<\/p>\n

Thank you to the Admiral with that one ship firing in a strange direction for the healing.<\/p>\n

3. The way the characters are portrayed is amazing!<\/span><\/h3>\n

Personally, what I like most about the Yamato<\/em> remake series is how the characters are portrayed. It’s really great that even villains who were punching bags or hopeless enemies in the original series have their own human aspects and cool scenes.<\/p>\n

This time, the relationship between Captain Ram and Bemlarze, and Dagon were really cool! Bemlarze was great, I don’t care what sect he is, I just want a grand funeral.<\/p>\n

Where did that incompetent Dagon from the original go!? Where was that Dagon who, while he was letting his guard down, had his double-triple-deck carrier sunk and ended up falling into a black hole!?<\/p>\n

Of course, there were other new characters from 2205<\/em> who played an important role as well, and now that I think about it, I was worried that Sakamoto might be killed in action at the intermediate supply base.<\/p>\n

I think there was a sequence where the fleet might retreat…but that meant the air force wouldn’t be able to evacuate! And that made the setting in the novel version of Be Forever Yamato<\/em> cross my mind. In that version, Sakamoto makes a suicide attack to escape from Goruba’s encirclement, and I thought that might happen again this time. Well, I’m glad that turned out to be a needless worry.<\/p>\n

While it’s unavoidable from a script perspective, it’s still heartbreaking when key characters are killed in battle, like in Farewell (2202)<\/em>.<\/p>\n

4. The script is amazing!<\/span><\/h3>\n

This goes back to what I’ve written so far, but Yamato 3199<\/em> is truly amazing, as it overcomes incredibly difficult challenges script-wise.<\/p>\n

– A remake of the original Be Forever<\/em> and Yamato III<\/em>
\n– Involves the Garmillas camp and Bolar
\n– Major changes to the Iscandar civilization<\/p>\n

While clearing these obstacles, it had to create an interesting story without unnecessary character deaths. In that respect, Chapter 5 is the “turning point” in the story structure, so I think it was a crucial point in determining the overall story, and I’m personally very satisfied with it. From what I’ve seen, I’m happy that it’s been well-received on social media.<\/p>\n

I think the final scene, “warping back to Earth 200 years in the past,” was a really bold move. I never thought they’d reverse the plot from the original in this way! I wonder if that Earth (the modern-day Earth we live on) is really real?
\nIt looks real…or rather, since neither Dezarium nor anyone else could interfere with space-time, I think they’ve properly come to the present day. For now, those of us living in the real world will want to reconfirm the left and right sides of Rodin’s The Thinker.<\/em><\/p>\n

5. What will happen next?<\/span><\/h3>\n

I don’t know! LOL<\/p>\n

But one thing I’m curious about is that Yamato 3199<\/em> has a strong element of commentary and satire on modern society, and now that the setting has finally moved to modern society, I’m hoping it will once again convey a strong message.<\/p>\n

From Earth’s perspective in 2207, “Some self-proclaimed being from the future called Dezarium has arrived and sounded the alarm! It’s scary!”<\/p>\n

Now, from the perspective of Earthlings in the present (2007?), “Some self-proclaimed being from the future has arrived on a spaceship called Yamato<\/em> and sounded the alarm (referring to the Garmillas incident shown in the preview for the next episode)! It’s scary!”<\/p>\n

The situation changes depending on your perspective, and how they’ll deal with the common human relationship problem of becoming the very enemy they once saw…I’m looking forward to it.<\/p>\n

And then there’s the relationship between Yuki and Alphon. It looks like Alphon will end up sacrificing himself and becoming an ally. Even now, Alphon is the only one in the Dezarium camp who is skeptical of Mother Dezarium.<\/p>\n

The only thing left to watch is how the story ends.<\/p>\n

Personally, I really like Alphon, so I hope he gets his moment to shine, does a good job, and lives out his life properly, held in Yuki’s lap (and is rewarded for it).<\/p>\n

Basically, I feel like 3199<\/em> is following a similar plot to 2202<\/em>. Chapter 5 ends with a cliffhanger, and Chapter 6 sees them escape from that desperate situation. (In 2202<\/em>, it was a crash landing inside the Comet Empire and their escape.) I’m looking forward to seeing how they return from the “Azure Labyrinth,” or modern-day Earth, in Chapter 6.<\/p>\n

“I’m looking forward to Chapter 6.” That really sums it up!<\/p>\n

6. Things I noticed or found interesting<\/span><\/h3>\n

– The shape of the fortress where Bemlarze is (is it Zespaze?)<\/em> seems similar to the ancient Akerius seed ship Shambleau.<\/em> Is there some connection?<\/p>\n

– Are the Hoshina couple okay? I feel like their relationship has cooled quite a bit. It’d be sad if either of them were sacrificed at the end. However, since Makoto, who is connected to the Hoshinas, will almost certainly cooperate with Yamato<\/em>, it’d be exciting if she were to board Arizona.<\/em><\/p>\n

– Jiro Shima was working hard with his Comm Medal, but won’t that make things awkward between him and his brother? I wonder if he’ll end up siding with Makoto and Tsubasa and playing an active role. Either way, it looks like the teacher will be leaving…<\/p>\n

– Sanada is so amazing! How did he almost figure out the workings of this new system called the Supercharger in just a few hours (or days?)? He was talking about quantum stuff. I wonder how Major Frausky felt when Sanada appeared at the strategy meeting led by President Dessler. Also, I laughed when Sanada cut in during Iscandar’s monologue, where he said, “We have everything we need.” He’s definitely needed, lol<\/p>\n

– I’m glad I saw it at the Piccadilly! This time, I watched it in a nice, spacious seat. After watching it, I left Shinjuku Piccadilly and looked up at the sky, LOL.<\/p>\n

There are four months until Chapter 6, so let’s live it up!<\/p>\n

[Movie Review] Be Forever Yamato REBEL 3199<\/em> Chapter 5: The Incandescent Galactic War<\/em><\/h2>\n

This isn’t an analysis. I mainly post reviews of audio-related products, but this one is 120% geek-filled.<\/p>\n

“I’m not being objective. It’s 120% subjective.”<\/p>\n

This article is simply a way for me to convert the vibrations that have built up inside me into likes and dislikes and let them out. Please note that I will be giving away spoilers. Also, I’m mostly praising the show, so if that bothers you, you might want to skip this.<\/p>\n

Let’s get started!<\/p>\n

Preface<\/span><\/h3>\n

I don’t like spoilers, but I’m the type of person who doesn’t shut out official information, so I’ll watch the trailers and the first 10 minutes. I’m also the type of person who will read online reviews of the premiere stage greeting,
\nas long as they don’t spoil anything. So, on the day of the premiere stage greeting, I was surprised to find that a gag order had been put in place. Even a quick search online didn’t turn up any spoilers. I’m grateful for my solid internet literacy.<\/p>\n

And so, having become a sad monster who endlessly rewatches special reports and trailers online, I greeted February 20, 2026.<\/p>\n

Overall Impressions<\/span><\/h3>\n

The previous chapter was a build-up that focused on drama and was rather slow, but this one was action-packed and much more exciting. I’m so happy. The basic story structure can be roughly summarized as follows:<\/p>\n

The first part (Episodes 15-17) focuses on the space group: Yamato<\/em> and Hyuga<\/em>, Galman and Bolar, as they attempt to defeat Digablas.<\/p>\n

The final part (Episode 18) focuses on the Earth group: Yuki Mori and Alphon, and the Hyuga<\/em> Troupe, as we investigate the mystery of Dezarium and reach the space-time nexus. That’s how it feels.<\/p>\n

The story centers around the capture of the intermediate supply base and getting one step closer to solving the mystery of Dezarium, and finally, at the end, we pass through the space-time nexus to enter the world 1,000 years in the future. Of course, there are dramatic elements, but the battle to capture Digablas is one of the highlights of this chapter.<\/p>\n

This section was well-done and worth watching. Above all, I liked the depiction of the strategy behind the attack. It’s true that there are some things I’d like to point out, but this is something you really should see in the theater. There’s something special about experiencing Soaring Yamato<\/em> [music track] on a big screen at full volume. I also never expected to hear a remake of The Battle of Shalbart.<\/em><\/p>\n

The story is basically focused on action, or rather, combat. In other words, visual enjoyment, so the drama becomes less intense from Chapter 4 onward. Well, even so, I think there are some highlights, with Dezarium getting even weirder, Earth becoming increasingly Dezarium-like, and the depiction of the Bolar side, centered around Ram.<\/p>\n

As for characters, of course Kodai and Sasha were in the spotlight, but I never expected to see scenes focusing on Dagon, Ram, and even Bolar. While I wanted more, I’m generally satisfied with the character portrayals. Kodai also had a scene where he could talk in a relaxed manner.<\/p>\n

So, the interstellar situation between the Yamato<\/em> crew, Galman, and Bolar comes to a close, and the situation between Dezarium and Earth deepens in chaos, with a shocking twist awaiting at the end.<\/p>\n

This chapter marks the end of 3199<\/em>‘s “past” and rapidly accelerates toward “the future.”<\/p>\n

I’m very satisfied. I wish I’d seen it at Shinjuku Piccadilly…<\/p>\n

The Last Minute<\/span><\/h3>\n

Honestly, it was like a twist on a twist. How will this all come together? Or rather, will Yamato<\/em> appear in Shinjuku six months later? It was a development that made me think, “Wait, can they do that…?”<\/p>\n

It ends in Shinjuku. Is that place really Shinjuku? Is there a way to get back from there? If the space-time node is a one-way street to the past, who is Sasha now? This opens up all sorts of speculation, and I think it’s fun in its own way.<\/p>\n

By the way, they really did travel 200 years into the past, and that place is seriously Shinjuku. I wonder if the space-time node is also a one-way street to the past. Before watching Chapter 5, I never imagined that a pilgrimage to Space Battleship Yamato<\/em> holy sites would become possible.<\/p>\n

Earth is becoming increasingly Dezarium-like<\/span><\/h3>\n

The previous chapter focused on Tsubasa and Fleur, and it was a “basically” peaceful story that ended with a bomb being dropped, but this chapter depicts the impact. It’s anything but peaceful.<\/p>\n

So, the Garmillans were expelled, many Earthlings who were fooled by a fake bombing are now donning Com Medals, and volunteers have formed for maintaining public order. What a disaster.<\/p>\n

On top of that, Todo and Serizawa have disappeared, Hoshina seems to be acting on his own, and it’s unclear what the partisans are doing on Earth, so for now, Earth is being manipulated by Dezarium.<\/p>\n

When the story of 3199<\/em> comes to an end, will Earthlings be able to return to their original way of life? And perhaps Arizona<\/em> will launch in the next chapter.<\/p>\n

Bolar saying: Even Dead Trees Add Life to a Mountain<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Bolar side also had some good, albeit brief, screen time. I thought the Bolars would be sort of comic relief like a bumbling frontier gang, but I didn’t expect them to play such a significant role.<\/p>\n

I see, there’s a saying in Bolar equivalent to “Even a dead tree can add life to a mountain.”<\/p>\n

And Lord Bemlarze, who I thought would remain a silent character, spoke. He had an amazing voice.<\/p>\n

The official website’s character introduction page already had a lot of information about him, but now that his relationship with Duke Ram has been shown in video footage, I’ll be happy if they delve deeper into it in some form.<\/p>\n

Needless to say, Grand Duke Ram was incredible. But I never expected to see such brilliantly dumb tactics in a good way. To be honest, I was dissatisfied with the way the planet-destroying missile was handled in Chapter 4, so I guess this is a redemption.<\/p>\n

Be Forever Yamato<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

The title was unexpectedly resolved.<\/p>\n

I never thought it would be resolved by Ram and Dessler. This is the second most surprising part of Chapter 5 after the Shinjuku ending.<\/p>\n

The Mystery of Dezarium<\/span><\/h3>\n

With the concepts revealed and actions taken in this chapter, Dezarium has become a truly unreliable narrator. Even Alphon, who speaks in the synopsis, is untrustworthy. Now that we know memories can be altered, it’s suspicious that he traveled to the past through a space-time node.<\/p>\n

This also explains the subtle differences in behavior toward Garmillas and Iscandar in 2205<\/em> and 3199.<\/em> In fact, the space-time node itself moves at such an incredible speed that it’s questionable whether a malfunctioning Pleiades<\/em>-class ship could even pass through it.<\/p>\n

Despite various historical events occurring, such as the climate cooling caused by Digablas and the fact that Garmillas and Bolar seem to have somewhat improved their relationship in this chapter, no one seems to be concerned about the historical rewriting. Did they really come from the future, or will minor changes be enough to change the Dezarium future? With the Andromeda<\/em>-class ship that was seen inside Goruba in 2205<\/em>, there are still many mysteries.<\/p>\n

Up until now, it seemed like Kodai was the one being looked after, but now it’s Alphon who is being looked after. Perhaps the ending will be subtly different from the original Be Forever.<\/em><\/p>\n

About Captain Seiya Kitano<\/span><\/h3>\n

Captain Kitano faces off against the Hyuga<\/em> crew in Episode 18. It seems that his position and emotions have left him caught in the middle. Even if you believe your choice is for the future’s sake, in the end, the very person you trusted becomes suspect, so it’s unrewarding.<\/p>\n

However, his artillery skill (?) shown against Hyuga<\/em>, and his planning ability to guide and drop targets where they were aimed, show considerable ability, as would be expected from a candidate for the Yamato<\/em> crew.<\/p>\n

There were lines that suggested Mamoru Kodai was originally going to be the Tactical Officer in 2199<\/em>, but if the original personnel had been used, I can’t help but fantasize that the Tactical Department would have been dominated by Mamoru Kodai, Seiya Kitano, and Haruo Nishina.<\/p>\n

About Sasha<\/span><\/h3>\n

Doesn’t something seem fishy? I might be overthinking it, but is she being monitored by Analyzer? What’s with that close-up of her smile when they travel to the future?<\/p>\n

As mentioned above, could a malfunctioning Pleiades<\/em>-class ship enter the space-time node in the first place? and if the space-time node is a one-way street to the past…<\/p>\n

Based on the behavior of Starsha and the others, who seem to be in a higher dimension, I’m certain it’s Sasha herself, but there might be some kind of manipulation going on.<\/p>\n

A Perceived Weakness<\/span><\/h3>\n

Now, regarding the battle against Digablas, the main dish of this chapter, I do have some personal complaints. I’m generally satisfied, though.<\/p>\n

This was within my expectations, but Yamato<\/em> and the other ships don’t move around much. It’s also a bit disappointing that the way it was portrayed felt like a monotonous projection of footage from a fixed camera on the battlefield. I would have liked to see Yamato<\/em> and the other ships move more actively, like in Chapter 3. <\/p>\n

And with Grodez<\/em>, it would have been fine for them to face off again and engage in a gunfight, right? In fact, Grodez<\/em>‘ presence has pretty much disappeared. They’re working fine, but you could say their spiritual pressure disappears outside of those scenes. It only reappears when it’s needed.<\/p>\n

Also, while there are parts where I think it’s unavoidable given the state of the battle, Goruba is pretty much just sitting there, barely moving around, and while the intermediate supply base did undergo some changes, it’s just bigger, and it’s still treated like the original, like a punching bag, which is a shame.<\/p>\n

To begin with, one month would have been enough time to rebuild, and it’s depicted as essentially unmanned, so it doesn’t seem like a problem from a setting perspective, but I think it would have been nice to have at least one surprise weapon.<\/p>\n

Conclusion and Anticipation for the Next Chapter<\/span><\/h3>\n

And that concludes my thoughts on Chapter 5.<\/p>\n

About the theme song, the patrol ship and escort ship that didn’t quite make it, I’m sure there’s much more I could say, but I’ll stop here since I could go on forever.<\/p>\n

So, there are only two chapters left of 3199<\/em>. I guess it’s the final sprint. This chapter ended with such a turn of events. Will it really be concluded safely? Will I be able to survive in society until then? If we continue at this pace, this nearly two-year journey will come to an end by the end of this year, and I’m already excited to think about it.<\/p>\n

Four months from now, on Friday, June 26, 2026<\/p>\n

Chapter 6: The Azure Labyrinth<\/em><\/p>\n

Let’s live our lives looking forward to this, shall we?<\/p>\n
