[Translator’s note: a concept created for Yamato 2202, TAG stands for “Tug Around Galaxy.”]

Ra-Jendora is a test ship built as a next-generation battleship based on Project 80.

The area around the Bolar star systems has long been pluaged by a cooling phenomenon known as the “Witch of Uralia.“ This phenomenon is more susceptible to higher energy levels, suppressing stellar fusion reactions, and the development of extra-dimensional structures in ships and other systems. Numerous dimensional faults have been confirmed in the surrounding area, and some believe that the destabilization of dimensional boundaries is causing energy to leak from normal space into sub space, accelerating the heat death of the universe.

Like Earth’s Wave engines and Garmillas’ Geshtam engines, Bolar ships use the Cogdar engine, which obtains energy by expanding extra dimensions, but suffers from the problem of unstable output in colder regions of space. As the cold worsens every year, even after the overthrow of the empire, there are more and more situations where the output of the previously-planned ships becomes unstable, so the Permanent Management Organization devised Project 80, which focuses on strengthening the Kogdal engine and the Bolar cannon, aiming to improve performance in colder regions.

However, this project was expected to be stymied by technical issues, construction, budget constraints, so the Permanent Management Organization assigned construction of a test test ship to Berth, a member state of the Federation. While Berth was an independent nation under the Federation’s centralized system, it was effectively a vassal state, with the Permanent Management Organization making almost all important diplomatic, military, and economic decisions. Contrary to expectations at the time of its creation, Berth‘s role in the construction project is said to have been a way for the Permanent Management Organization to avoid responsibility in the event of failure. Many planned ships were never completed, and the project itself was abandoned.

The completed Ra-Jendora was not only a test ship, but was also built under the leadership of Berth, making it an ambitious vessel that stood out from the more conservative plans of the past. The ship’s name means “ruler“ (Ra [user] and Jendora [to rule]), and was bestowed upon the Berth royal family when the Bolar Federation granted them control of the star system. This name is still passed down to the Grand Dukes.

The structure of the ship, with a large, directly-coupled cannon weapon at the bow, is modeled after existing planned ships, but the engine’s output has been greatly improved, and a new type of Bolar Cannon has been installed in addition to the Bolar Cannon at the bow. While the previous Bolar Cannon had adjustable firing angles and was designed to eliminate obstacles over a relatively short distance and a wide area, the new Bolar Cannon deploys excess dimensions in a convergent manner, increasing its range and power. This gives the ship a strategic weapon, comparable to the Wave-Motion Gun and Dessler Cannon.

Additionally, the ship is equipped with numerous Kogdal barriers (Kogdal Matiel [Dimensional Deployment Defense]) as defensive devices. These are special barriers based on the same principle as Wave Barriers and Geshtam Walls, and were also employed on previous planned ships, but their performance was low due to their engine output. With increased engine output, this ship has been improved in the same way as the new Bolar Cannon, and its pressure limit is now comparable to that of Yamato and Deusula III.

Upon completion, the ship was scheduled to be handed over to the Permanent Management Organization, but after Garmillas declared its re-founding, it was left behind as the main force of Berth and deployed in the recapture of the Galman star system. Under the command of Grand Duke Ram Rajendora, the ship was deployed in a surprise attack on the Galman home planet.

Pages from Hobby Japan #682

Return to previous article

[1

post-43230","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
