Even if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed, think about it for a moment. Think about the magnitude of an anime that continues to live on for ten years. For example, a total of 500,000 cells were used! It’s fair to say that fan club activities and anime publications also got serious with Yamato. It’s not unusual for some of the original female fans to have children now, and many have used it as a stepping stone into society, with some working at advertising agencies to cover rival programs, or others working as writers or editors for anime magazines. The planet was heading toward Earth in an elliptical orbit. The Earth now faces a crisis similar to Noah’s flood 3,000 years ago, but the people of Earth are not yet aware of this fact.

(This section reproduced from the Final Yamato press sheet)

Bottom row:

Some highlights
Bombshell statement!?

Prior to the film’s release, at a luncheon attended by people involved with anime magazines, producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki made the following explosive statement:

First of all, as proof that this Yamato is truly the end, there is a scene of Yamato exploding. However, you don’t yet know what will happen after the explosion…

Hmm, maybe it will turn into a star!!

Next, there are usually a lot of deaths, but this time there won’t be many. You’ll probably guess right away, though…)

Also, Yamato is always saved by a woman, but this time it’s different. Humanity must protect Earth with its own hands!

And now in the spring of their tenth year together, Kodai-kun and Yuki-san (no longer calling them “chan”) have declared that they will be united in body and soul! After that, a rumor spread that, “if you become the captain of Yamato, you will die young.” And there is no one left to become captain, so he is made captain. But since he’s not the right person for the role, it seems he will be forced to drop out of the next production.

A typical prototype who cannot win in the end without relying on someone.

The protagonist is immortal. However he does not undergo Ultra Change. The next time he makes a suicide attack, I hope he shouts, “Glory to the Earth Federation!”

Under the guidance of the esteemed principal (Okita), he grows into a passionate, full-fledged teacher (officer). How many times has she been hurt and died together with her lover, Susumu Kodai?

Engaged to Kodai, but still not married. It was met with disapproval.

I’d like to see him get into trouble after giving the wrong command. I wonder if there are any parents who would give him such an old-fashioned name after the year 2000. I wonder why he chose a dangerous character like Kodai as the acting captain. He returned to Earth asleep and even had a statue erected to commemorate his achievements. He retired to the countryside to recuperate, only to be suddenly resurrected. What idea do you have that goes beyond something so simple!?

Ideas by multiple contributors:

IDEA 1

Earth is under attack and in dire straits. At that moment, the eyes of the Okita statue on Heroes Hill begin to glow, and soon the statue breaks open, revealing the cyborg Juzo Okita.

Narrator: “After Captain Okita’s death, he was turned into a cyborg by Shiro Sanada and continued to sleep inside the statue. However, it was set to automatically awaken when the evil energy surrounding the Earth increased!”

And when Okita finds himself in a pinch, his robotic brother, the artificial human Hijikata, who has been traveling the world to train, comes to his rescue.

IDEA 2

The spaceship Yamato is defeated, Earth is occupied, and a stake is driven into the bronze statue of Captain Okita. Yuki Mori prays, “Captain Okita, please help me!” The statue’s gentle face then changes into one of anger and it begins to move. It then grows gigantic due to a device developed by Sanada called “Sanada Synchron Maxim” and mercilessly defeats the bad guys!

(Yuki Mori suddenly becomes more active in the second half of the story, and begins calling herself “Angel Oyuki.”)

IDEA 3

The dying Kodai screams, “Okitaaa!” The statue of Okita falls (this always happens!) and a robot jumps out. Five robots fly out from the graves of Yamamoto, Kato, Saito, Tokugawa, and Kodai-no-kami to support the first robot.

IDEA 4

Earth senses something ominous happening in space and launches a research rocket. The rocket comes back, hitting Captain Okita! It takes a wrong turn and ends up passing through the “Captain’s graveyard” in space (a place for the wandering spirits of captains who died). Okita continues to cry, wanting to go home! Kodai and the others tie Okita to the “Yuki-chan rocket,” which looks just like Yuki Mori, and send him home.

IDEA 5

Juzo Okita’s body was actually frozen and stored. When his body fell into the hands of the enemy, he was resurrected and modified. However, Okita managed to escape before his brain was modified, and raced through space to save Yamato from peril, disguised as an Astrobike.

Narrator: “Captain Rider Okita Juzo is a modified human. The Dengil Empire, which modified him, is an evil secret society plotting to conquer Earth. Captain Rider must fight against the Dengil Empire for the freedom of mankind!” (Hahaha, this makes it sound like the voice of the Dengil leader is also Goro Naya…)

IDEA 6

Okita is revived without any preamble. Okita gives a plausible explanation to the surprised Yamato crew: “I used up all my energy in the battle with Gamilas, so I went into a yoga slumber for ten years in preparation for my return. Now that my energy has been restored, I’ve been resurrected. Come, everyone, master the art of yoga like me and fight our new enemy!”

Then, for some reason, Okita starts doing aerobics exercises. Yuki Mori, misunderstanding further, applies a shrimp hold to Kodai. Shima begins doing radio calisthenics. (The rest is too gruesome, so I’ll skip it.)

IDEA 7

Lighting strikes Heroes Hill and the statue emerges.

IDEA 8

Footsteps approach Heroes Hill.

Kodai: “Ah, that guy!”
Aihara: “Impossible!”

Then Captain Okita appears under the evening moon.

IDEA 9

“I’m Okita, the new captain,” he says, descending from the captain’s room.

“Oh, Captain Okita!” Kodai and the others are surprised. Then Sanada, Sado, and the others appear.

“Hahaha, you’re surprised, aren’t you? At first we were also shocked, thinking he was Captain Juzo Okita.”

“What do you mean, Sanada-san?”

“Actually, Captain Okita has a twin brother named Jushi Okita. He has followed in his brother Juzo’s footsteps to take over as the new captain.

“Is that so?” Everyone agrees.

IDEA 10

Kodai: “It’s a miracle of love. The universe has performed a miracle.” Everyone agrees.

(Mr. N says, “The theme of Yamato is love.” One of the staff members says, “What? Yamato was about love?”)

(But I wonder if this is enough to convince me. Hmm, I’m confused.)

IDEA 11

“Younger brother, cyborg, clone, it doesn’t matter which one you use.”

“Um, what’s this?”

“It’s the Yamato rin-kake technique. Would you like to use it?”

“No way!”

IDEA 12

When it rains, he grows.

IDEA 13

Okita didn’t die. Tired from his long voyage, Okita fell into a deep sleep when he saw Earth in front of him again, feeling a sense of relief. The tears he shed were from being sleep-deprived or something like that.

IDEA 14

Captain Okita’s son reached his age in just four years.

Final image caption: You worked hard for ten years…
good job, everyone!

Shumi’s Space Battleship Yamato Miscellaneous Corner

Creepy Quiz: Yamato Edition

1.
