October 10: Chapter 4 theater goods<\/h3>\n

The Chapter 4 products sold in theater gift shops were a mix of familiar and fresh with something for every taste.<\/p>\n

October 10: Chapter 4 week 1 theater handout<\/h3>\n

Even those who bought nothing still walked away with something; the free giveaway item for the first week was an art image of Sasha in the midst of some blunder that bewilders Talan and Dessler. As for the nature of the blunder…best guess wins.<\/p>\n

October 10: Chapter 5 promotion<\/h3>\n

The icing on the cake of a new chapter is always the first rush of information on the next one, which was even more welcome this time since Chapter 4 ends on a major cliffhanger. Chapter 5 is due out February 20, 2026 (four months this time instead of six) and bears the title The Incandescent Galactic War<\/em>. The slogan shown on the key art reads, “The ‘unexpected’ begins.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Two entertainment websites, Anime Anime<\/em> and Anime Hack<\/em>, quickly published articles to speculate on what comes next.

October 10: Twitter action<\/h3>\n

In an interesting example of timing, the premiere of Chapter 4 coincided with the canonical birthday of a major character: Ryusuke Domon. The Yamato<\/em> Production Committee posted the sleeve art from the Chapter 3 Blu-ray (above left) with the following text:<\/p>\n

Today, October 10th, is Ryusuke Domon’s birthday! Okita’s children, and their children in turn, have grown up splendidly, and now they’ve become indispensable, reliable presences for Yamato<\/em>. That said, they’re still in their growth phase!<\/span><\/p>\n

Elsewhere, animator Kio (Edakio) Edamatsu posted his own Chapter 4 commemorative illustration (above right) with the following message:<\/p>\n

REBEL 3199<\/em> Chapter 4 starts screening today, October 10th. I had the privilege of assisting with prop design, mecha animation direction, and art settings. Thank you for your support!<\/span><\/p>\n

October 10: Day 1 stage greeting<\/h3>\n

The “elite trio” took a deserving step into the spotlight on the evening of premiere day to speak in front of an appreciative audience at the Shinjuku Piccadilly Theater: Scriptwriter Hideki Oka, Director Naomichi Yamato, and General Director Harutoshi Fukui.<\/p>\n

October 10: Tokyo City Philharmonic Concert<\/h3>\n

And finally, as if everything else wasn’t enough, would you believe…a live concert? The scheduling was probably just coincidental, but the Tokyo City Philharmonic put on a show that made the Yamato<\/em> theme the opening number in Symphonic Pops Night<\/em> at the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall. Other selections included themes from Lupin III, Superman, the Godfather, Back to the Future<\/em>, and more.<\/p>\n

Now how’s THAT for a complete Yamato<\/em> dream day?<\/p>\n

October 11: Kadokawa tote bag<\/h3>\n

Earlier in 2025, Yasuhiko Yoshikazu rendered his first new Yamato<\/em> art in a very long time, for publication on a book written by Ryusuke Hikawa and published by Kadokawa. On this day, Kadokawa issued the artwork again on a limited-edition tote bag sold at their online store.<\/p>\n

October 11: Day 2 stage greeting<\/h3>\n

The boys were back in town for a new conversation at the Shinjuku Piccadilly theater. In the early evening, Harutoshi Fukui was joined on stage by the voice actors for Kodai, Ageha, and Seiya Kitano to discuss their work in Chapter 4. <\/p>\n

October 12: Satomi Moriya interview<\/h3>\n

Satomi Moriya is a voice actor we haven’t heard from yet, but her character has become a mainstay: Miki Saijo, now the main radar operator in 3199<\/em>. Referring to Miki as “the hardworking one,” Moriya opened up about her Yamato<\/em> experiences for Mantan Web<\/em>.<\/p>\n

October 13: Osaka Shion “Monthly Wind Ensemble” concert<\/h3>\n

How would YOU like to perform the Yamato<\/em> theme under the baton of Akira Miyagawa? A bunch of amateur and practicing musicians got the chance to do just that (along with pros from the Osaka Shion Wind Orchestra) at the 100th edition of the “Monthly Wind Ensemble.” This is a program that welcomes participants to experience the real thing with a real instrument in their real hands.<\/p>\n

As a regular conductor for Osaka Shion, Akira Miyagawa led the group through the Yamato<\/em> Suite and two of his other favorite pieces at a community center in the city of Osaka.<\/p>\n

October 13: Siena Wind Orchestra concert<\/h3>\n

In the city of Kure, on the same day and almost the same time, the Yamato<\/em> Suite got another shakedown by the Siena Wind Orchestra, which has also worked with Akira Miyagawa on more than one occasion. This time Yamato<\/em> shared the setlist with Star Wars, Nausicaa<\/em>, and other worthy companions.<\/p>\n

October 14: Official website updated<\/h3>\n

Every new chapter brings new entries and updates to the REBEL 3199<\/em> character and mecha guides at the official website<\/a>. And as usual, we here at Cosmo DNA<\/em> make it our job to keep you supplied with all the information in English.<\/p>\n

October 17: Week 2 theater handout<\/h3>\n

When Chapter 4 began its second week (of four), the free giveaway item changed. This time, it was a facsimile of an original Sasha model sheet from 1980.<\/p>\n

October 17: Chapter 4 on Crunchyroll<\/h3>\n

Seven long days after the premiere in Japan, the door opened to the rest of the world when the four new episodes made their subtitled debut on Crunchyroll<\/em>. To find them, look for the title Star Blazers<\/em> and keep clicking through the “next season” prompts until you get to REBEL 3199<\/em>. Enjoy.<\/p>\n

October 17: Yamatalk “Script Edition”<\/h3>\n

Yamatalk events have been happening since the start of 2199<\/em>, but a new twist occurred on this day: a conversation was pre-recorded and streamed to four theaters for an entire week. The theaters were in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Hiroshima (one showing per day in each city) and special tickets were required.<\/p>\n

The session included the “elite three” (Fukui, Yamato, and Oka) and their guest was O.G. Yamato<\/em> superfan Ryusuke Hikawa. The topic was a deep dive into the original works that 3199<\/em> is based on, and new information was shared about Chapter 5.<\/p>\n

October 18 & 19: Fukuyanime 8<\/h3>\n

This annual convention in Fukuyama has often hosted Yamato<\/em>-related events. Back in March, Kia Asamiya’s art exhibition Kurogane [Black Metal]<\/em> opened in Tokyo with a healthy percentage of his Yamato<\/em> paintings from the past several decades. The exhibition was revived at Fukuyamanime under the name Kurogane Plus Alpha<\/em> with much of the same art on display.<\/p>\n

Asamiya himself turned up for a signing and talk show on Sunday with his pal, special guest Nobuyoshi Habara (director of 2202).<\/em><\/p>\n

October 18: 63rd All Japan Model Hobby Show<\/h3>\n

An alternative title for this entry could be “Hell Freezes Over.” Why? Because the Bandai booth at this annual event displayed upcoming Yamato<\/em> model kits, one of which was a rough prototype for a 1\/1000 Arizona!<\/em><\/p>\n

Also on hand were a reissue of the 1\/1000 Ginga<\/em> (with effects parts, due out in January ’26) and a 3rd refit-type Mecha Collection Yamato<\/em> (March). Arizona<\/em> was labeled for release in April, but this was later corrected to June. The list price is surprisingly high at \u00a513,200 (about $90 as of this writing), possibly indicating a lower than usual production run. But we’ll see.<\/p>\n

October 21: Music news<\/h3>\n

Yasuhiko Yoshikazu, the master animator\/manga artist\/illustrator whose pedigree goes all the way back to the first Yamato<\/em> series, has had a popular art exhibition touring Japan since spring 2024, and the new painting shown above is now part of it. The Sunrise Music website offered the art on a variety of products (see them here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Why is this entry categorized as “music news”? Because the painting serves double duty as the cover art for a CD titled Yasuhiko Yoshikazu Animation Works Music Collection<\/em> that is scheduled for release on November 19, 2025. It consists of 2 discs packed full of songs from “Yas” anime, from Yamato<\/em> (1974) all the way through Gundam, Crusher Joe<\/em>, and many more up to the present day.<\/p>\n

October 23: Hobby Japan Web<\/em><\/h3>\n

The 12th installment of the ongoing Yamato Mechanics<\/em> series appeared in Hobby Japan<\/em> #677, which went on sale in late September. Today, the online version appeared to answer your questions about Dezarium’s Autoplanet Goruba.<\/p>\n

October 23: Official tweet<\/h3>\n

After seeing the plush Sasha doll that was part of the Chapter 4 theater merch, the implications of this photo should be pretty obvious. It was posted by the Yamato<\/em> Production Committee with this caption:<\/p>\n

The second batch of stuffed toys is also being diligently produced.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

October 23: Science Beginners<\/em> Vol. 10<\/h3>\n

A new set of three “science” videos started today on Youtube. Tasuke Tokugawa tried to open with an obscure reference joke based on a TV commercial from the 70s, and Isidore threw off his “Power-saver-kun” disguise to complain that no one would get it. From there, the narrator went on to describe the mechanics of Bolar’s Planet Destruction Missile.<\/p>\n

In addition, a new popularity poll is in the works. After Isidore lost his hosting duties to “Power-saver-kun” in a previous poll, a rematch is underway to decide who will take the throne for the next round (Chapter 5). October 24: Week 3 theater handout<\/h3>\n

Chapter 4’s third week kicked off with a new giveaway in theaters, a “smart phone sticker” featuring Tsubasa Kato and Fleur.<\/p>\n

October 24: Yamato 2199<\/em> manga, Chapter 57<\/h3>\n

October was truly a month of miracles! It’s been almost two years since we last saw an installment from Michio Murakawa (he’s been working hard on other Yamato<\/em> projects, after all), but 20 brand new pages finally appeared on the Comic Walker<\/em><\/a> website. <\/p>\n

Murakawa had this to say about it at Bluesky:<\/p>\n

I’ve been busy with design work for REBEL 3199<\/em>, and although the story is complete, I haven’t been able to find the time to draw it as much as I’d like. But this marks my return as a manga artist. I plan to proceed with the Rainbow Star Cluster arc, with a structure completely different from the anime version. The mecha pages will slow me down, but I’ll do my best. Thank you for your support.<\/span><\/p>\n

October 24: Artisan Toys preorder open<\/h3>\n

Good news for soft vinyl toy fans: the stylized Yamato<\/em> that’s been promoted all year long by Artisan Toys became available for preorder today. It measures almost a foot long and is scheduled to ship out in February. The asking price is \u00a516,500, which equates about $112 as of this writing.<\/p>\n

October 24: Sasha birthday products announced<\/h3>\n

As you’re probably aware, just about every character in the remake series has a canonical birthday, and Sasha’s happened to land on this day. The Yamato<\/em> Production committee marked the occasion with an announcement for Sasha “birthday goods” to ship out on January 30, 2026.<\/p>\n

October 25: Science Beginners<\/em> Vol. 11<\/h3>\n

This time, Tokugawa and Isidore spoke respectfully about Captain Ram before the narrator (referred to as “granny”) stepped in with a VERY detailed explanation of how dimensional submarines work. When Tokugawa suddenly realized Isidore was appearing “out of costume,” things got a little tense.<\/p>\n
