October 26: Dotabata Oji<\/em> game collaboration begins<\/h3>\n

Yamato<\/em> in a cozy game? Somebody thought it was a good idea. Starting today, a collaboration began with Dotabata Oji [Clumsy Prince]<\/em> featuring a cartoon version of the ship and SD versions of Kodai, Yuki, and Sasha. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The art is undeniably cute, but info on the nature of gameplay is not readily available, so make of it what you will.<\/p>\n

October 27: Science Beginners<\/em> Vol. 12<\/h3>\n

The third and final installment for this round started crazy and ended crazy with a science sandwich (more on dimensional travel) in between. Charmed by Sasha’s “character song” at the end of Chapter 4, Tokugawa dreamed of doing his own character song in the future. When Isidore (in costume) scoffed at this, he decided to perform a song about Isidore. And then…well…<\/p>\n

October 27: TV news<\/h3>\n

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the TV series broadcast of Space Battleship Yamato<\/em>, a landmark in Japanese animation history, WOWOW will exclusively broadcast seven works from the Yamato<\/em> franchise this December, including the TV series, theatrical films, and TV special.<\/span><\/p>\n

Space Battleship Yamato<\/em> is a series of science-fiction works depicting the exploits of the crew aboard the fictional starship Yamato<\/em>, beginning with the TV anime broadcast from 1974 to 1975. It had a profound impact on the Japanese anime industry, became a social phenomenon, and continues to inspire remake series to this day.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Sunday December 21, the very first TV series, Space Battleship Yamato<\/em> (all 26 episodes), which started it all, will be broadcast in its entirety.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday December 27, and Sunday December 28, the following films will air: Space Battleship Yamato<\/em>, a re-edited version of the first TV series depicting the hardships of Yamato<\/em> as it journeys to the distant planet Iscandar to save Earth from impending destruction.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second theatrical film Farewell to Yamato<\/em>, where the Yamato<\/em> launches again against a new threat, the White Comet Empire.<\/span><\/p>\n

The TV special The New Voyage<\/em>, where Yamato<\/em> and its crew, alerted by their former arch-enemy Commander Dessler, about Iscandar’s crisis, head to Iscandar for rescue. <\/span><\/p>\n

The third theatrical film, Be Forever Yamato<\/em>, where Yamato<\/em>, Earth’s last hope, sets out to liberate Earth from invaders. <\/span><\/p>\n

The fourth theatrical film, Final Yamato<\/em>, depicts the desperate battle between the Yamato<\/em> crew and the Dengil Empire, who lost their homeworld and now target Earth. <\/span><\/p>\n

The fifth theatrical film, Yamato<\/em> Resurrection, shows the revived Yamato<\/em> facing its greatest crisis as a mobile black hole approaches Earth. <\/span><\/p>\n

These six films will be broadcast over two days. The first two will be 4K remastered versions (broadcast in 2K) and the others will be HD remastered versions. We invite you to take this opportunity to enjoy the entire Space Battleship Yamato<\/em> series, which continues to gain momentum even after half a century.<\/span><\/p>\n

October 30: Cast comment video<\/h3>\n

One more for the road? The last video for October featured Hiroshi Kamiya (Seiya Kitano), Daisuke Ono (Kodai), and Uemura (Ageha) sharing their favorite moments of Chapter 4.<\/p>\n

October 30: “Shining Ship” miniature announced<\/h3>\n

Back in 2017 and 2018, Bandai’s Tamashii Nations division engineered new Yamato<\/em> miniatures at 1\/2000 scale with some serious detail work and a mirrored display stand. This “Shining Ship” lineup consisted of Yamato<\/em>, Andromeda<\/em>, and Apollo Norm<\/em>. Now the 3rd refit-type Yamato<\/em> from REBEL 3199<\/em> is getting the same treatment.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Measuring about 6.5″ long, it is equipped with option parts and internal lighting. Preorders opened on November 7 with a release scheduled for April 2026.<\/p>\n

October 31: Week 4 theater handout<\/h3>\n

The final theater giveaway for Chapter 4 was an intriguing one; a clear file featuring “Digabelas,” formerly known as the “Dark Nebula Intermediate Supply Base.” It appears at the very end of Episode 14 and promises to play a major role in what comes next.<\/p>\n

October 31: REBEL 3199<\/em> movie marathon<\/h3>\n

The very last Yamato<\/em> event of this overwhelming month was not for the timid. Described as an “All Night Screening,” it took place at the Shinjuku Piccadilly Theater and gave fans their first opportunity to see all four chapters on a big screen in one sitting.<\/p>\n

It commenced with Chapter 1 at 11pm and concluded at almost 5:30am (with breaks in between chapters). Far from being daunted, enough fans showed up to literally sell out the theater.<\/p>\n

And to award everyone for their steely dedication, a special theater giveaway was printed up just for the event…<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

…four facsimiles of animation art (genga) for the four top-tier characters. Even if you couldn’t stay awake through the whole thing, you still walked out with the grand prize.<\/p>\n

Shinya Takahashi wasn’t the only veteran looking for customers at YJ Auctions; also on hand was Keisuke Masunaga, who earned well-deserved fame when he revolutionized the “Leiji Matsumoto style” for anime in the 90s and (among other things) designed the look of the Playstation games. Several original Masunaga pieces came and went, ending up in lucky hands.<\/p>\n

Music dig<\/em><\/p>\n

Just when you think you’ve squeezed allllll the toothpaste out of the tube, another drop appears.<\/p>\n

The tweet shown here was posted by a fan in Japan under the online name TTZ-L<\/a>, who heard the opening theme for Star Blazers<\/em> and was reminded of the work of Mitch Miller<\/a>. If you’ve never heard of him, Wikipedia describes him thus:<\/p>\n

An American choral conductor, record producer, record-industry executive, and professional oboist. He was involved in almost all aspects of the industry, particularly as a conductor and Artists and Repertoire (A&R) man. Miller was one of the most influential people in American popular music during the 1950s and early 1960s, both as the head of A&R at Columbia Records and as a best-selling recording artist with an NBC television series, Sing Along with Mitch<\/em>. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester in the early 1930s, Miller began his musical career as a player of the oboe and English horn, making numerous highly regarded classical and popular recordings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stone Faced Reaction videos<\/em><\/p>\n

A few reports ago, we learned of a Youtube series called Stone Faced Reaction<\/em>, which started its own episode-by-episode review of the first Yamato<\/em> series. Since then, they’ve gotten all the way through Episode 22 (as of this writing) and look to finish up in another month.<\/p>\n
