Rapid glaciation is progressing, making it increasingly uninhabitable for humans. Moreover, the cause appears to be the “Witch of Uralia.”

Indeed, at the beginning of Chapter 1, Boroze, who witnessed the Grand Reverse, stated, “The witch’s breath at the center of the galaxy, freezing the universe…the Light of Uralia.” Thus, it’s possible the Light of Uralia also brought the cooling to Berth.

At this point, I thought the “Witch of Uralia” was recognized by the Bolar Federation as a sort of legend, but it appears they were actually suffering its effects in real time. Given these circumstances, it makes perfect sense that the Bolar Federation would overreact upon observing a new “Light of Uralia” in the solar system.

Regarding the cause of this cooling, it’s likely a result of Uralia (Dezarium) siphoning energy from planets and energy-generating facilities like the Cordal Reactor. This is purely my own speculation, but since Dezarium doesn’t use the Wave-Motion energy reactors prevalent in this universe, it must acquire energy in another form to operate here. Could its chosen method be the forcible extraction of energy from planets? Indeed, in 2205, to secure warp energy for Iscandar’s warp jump, they destroyed planet Garmillas.

In the case of Berth, since the purpose wasn’t as large-scale (considering the timing, it was likely for energy procurement for military activities in 2205), it didn’t immediately lead to the planet’s destruction. However, it was likely drained of energy in a way that drastically shortened the planet’s lifespan.

Considering this, perhaps for Uralia (Dezarium), planets are fundamentally just tools for procuring energy. Consequently, Uralia may be the calamity bringing destruction to the universe.

Incidentally, Grand Duke Ram finally made his appearance. He proved a truly noble figure worthy of being called a great ruler, opening the granaries for the people of Berth, who had become unable to obtain food. He was also a noble character in the original Yamato III, and he’s been remade very well indeed. In the original series, Ram fought to the end to protect the pride of Berth and met his death in battle. I wonder what fate awaits him in this version.

Grand Duke Ram’s sortie

As mentioned above, with the planet of Berth itself in dire straits, Ram decided to join the war against Galman-Garmillas.
Considering the planet’s situation, it hardly seems like a time for war, but given his statement that “I will protect the land of Berth,” it’s possible he secured a promise of substantial support from the Bolar Federation in exchange for his participation (in the defeat of Galman-Garmillas).

Judging from the official preview, Ram seems intent on a near-suicidal operation to strike at the Galman-Garmillas homeworld (or rather, President Dessler). Given that the planet itself is in dire straits and survival depends entirely on Bolar Federation support, it makes perfect sense he’d fight with desperate determination.

Now, the Ra-Jendora, Grand Duke Ram’s flagship, has finally appeared. In the original series, it felt like a mass-produced battleship in a different color, but it has been reborn with a rather imposing, flagship-worthy appearance.
A 1/1000 scale model kit might be difficult, but I really hope to see it realized as a Mecha Collection model.

Also, the portrait of Prime Minister Bemlarze displayed on the Ra-Jendora‘s bridge…it seems displaying this portrait is standard practice on Bolar Federation ships. However, perhaps this portrait isn’t just a painting. Like General Gilmore’s portrait in Doraemon: Nobita’s Little Universe War, it might also function as a surveillance device.

Indeed, Grand Duke Ram seemed conscious of this portrait during his speech. That address might have been aimed at boosting his subordinates’ morale while also demonstrating Berth’s loyalty to Prime Minister Bemlarze.

OCTOBER 7

Review + Analysis of Chapter 4 Preview Part 2

See the original post here

Yamato Arrives at the Galman-Garmillas Homeworld

Invited to Galman-Garmillas at the end of Chapter 3, Yamato arrives safely and is greeted by the Berger Fleet. Berger reappears, continuing from the previous chapter (though his return was already revealed in special announcements)!

The sight of the Lambea passing Yamato, and the transmission signal declaring “We wholeheartedly welcome the arrival of our old comrade-in-arms,” evokes memories of the buildup from past works like Ark of the Stars and 2205, truly touching the heart.

In the remake series, Berger has a deeper connection to Kodai than even Commander Dessler, so ideally, I’d love to see a scene where he reunites directly with Kodai and they converse, much like in the later chapter of 2205. Furthermore, the assault on the intermediate base (tentative name), likely depicted in the next chapter, could potentially unfold with support from Berger’s fleet.

Meanwhile, Yamato‘s guide, Deusula III, was immediately returned to active duty, as Yamanami explained, indicating Galman-Garmillas is at war. Indeed, Deusula III is one of the few ships equipped with the trump card, the Dessler Cannon. Having lost most of its national power in 2205, Galman-Garmillas likely has no room to spare this vessel.

Furthermore, this ship was originally dispatched to escort a convoy transporting Garmillas residents returning from Earth. Considering it had just suffered an attack from an unknown transparent battleship (Grodez), the possibility of another assault likely meant it had to return to its original mission immediately.

Melda’s reappearance and Kodai’s stern expression

Melda took over the piloting duties from Deusula III as it rejoined the battle line. Seeing Melda, who could now be called a close friend, Akira wore an unusually gentle expression. It’s rare to see her like this. The fact she can now wear such a mature expression, unimaginable back in 2199, suggests she has internally matured into a grown woman.

By the way, what position does Melda hold in Galman-Garmillas? Honestly, considering her extensive combat record and Galman-Garmillas’ personnel shortage, it wouldn’t be surprising if she’d risen quite high. She might unexpectedly be commander of the homeworld’s air defense force or a mobile force commander like Berger.

In stark contrast to Akira, who softens her expression upon seeing Melda, Kodai’s expression remains stern. Akira is surprised by this, but it’s likely she was preoccupied with various thoughts (the fact of “Sasha’s rescue” conveyed beforehand, “the situation surrounding Galman-Garmillas,” “Earth matters,” and so on) and hadn’t noticed Melda.

Although Kodai achieved a significant mental recovery in Chapter 3, this lack of composure suggests he hasn’t fully recovered yet. The trailer for Chapter 4 showed a scene where he passed Sasha by; this likely stems from Kodai’s current lack of composure.

Is the Holy City of Ruda connected to Iscandar?

Yamato lands in the sea of Galman-Garmillas and enters the port of the Holy City of Ruda. This scene evokes the arrival at Iscandar in 2199. Indeed, as Talan later reveals, the structures of the Holy City of Ruda appear to be ruins connected to Iscandar.

Considering the fact that in 2205, the Garmillas people brought this from the planet Galman, the presence of Iscandarian artifacts on this planet isn’t that surprising. However, seeing that a full-fledged city was built here suggests several intriguing possibilities:

① At its peak, Iscandar’s sphere of influence extended to the Milky Way Galaxy.

② Iscandar originally expanded its influence from the Milky Way Galaxy to the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, becoming independent locally.

These possibilities are intriguing.

Regardless, the fact that Iscandar held influence in the Milky Way Galaxy seems like a fairly crucial setting for the 3199 storyline. As I’ve mentioned before, considering how Uralia (Dezarium), said to control the central region of the Milky Way, was so intensely hostile towards Iscandar, it makes you wonder if Uralia suffered some painful defeat at Iscandar’s hands long ago.

And finally, the appearance of the Pale Blue Princess, now even gracing the chapter title! What thoughts and feelings swirl within her heart as she gazes at Yamato with that fragile expression?

Somehow, I feel this expression of Sasha’s is her true self.

OCTOBER 7

Review + Analysis of Chapter 4 Preview Part 3

See the original post here

Yamato Crew Conversing with General Talan

Captain Yamanami and the Yamato crew converse with General Talan at the Galman-Garmillas Government Office.
Incidentally, isn’t this the first time (at least in the main story’s depiction) the Yamato crew has had a conversation with General Talan?

I felt something off about General Talan’s voice. According to those in the know, this is likely because Kotaro Nakamura, who voiced Gader Talan since 2199, had been on hiatus from voice acting since around 2023 due to illness.
Fortunately, Mr. Nakamura has since recovered and returned to work. However, it’s unclear whether a stand-in was used during the Chapter 4 recording sessions because he was still on hiatus at that time, or if scheduling conflicts after his return led to the use of a stand-in. Either way, with the Yamato remake series now spanning over a decade, voice actor changes have become more noticeable.

If a remake of the final chapter is planned after 3199, I sincerely hope the main character voice actors remain unchanged.

Changing the subject

Now, regarding the Yamato crew talking with General Talan, the character selection present here is a bit puzzling.

I understand why Dr. Sado and others are present, given their roles on the main bridge and their relationship with Sasha. But why are general crew members from the engineering and technical departments, like Tokugawa and Bando, here too?

One possible reason is that the Cosmo Hound, capable of transporting large numbers, was used for the transfer from Yamato to the government headquarters, and they were assigned as operational personnel for it? This might be clarified in the main story.

Also, since Kodai is standing next to Captain Yamanami after changing into his standard ship uniform, and Domon is positioned behind them, has Kodai officially returned as Tactical Officer? That said, he consistently wore his pilot suit while aboard Yamato, and upon arriving at Galman-Garmillas, he was in the observation room rather than the main bridge. So perhaps Kodai himself doesn’t consider himself reinstated yet, but those around him already treat him as Tactical Officer.

Indeed, Chapter 4 seems to feature more scenes of Kodai commanding Yamato, so these circumstances will likely be properly depicted in the main story.

Meanwhile, General Talan discusses the numerous ruins of Iscandar origin found on Galman-Garmillas. He utters a very intriguing line: “Bolar didn’t seem to investigate them properly, but among them…” Only for Sasha’s interruption to forcefully end the conversation (tears).

What exactly was General Talan trying to say? This will undoubtedly be deeply connected to the future story, making it incredibly intriguing. Well, I suppose we’ll just have to wait for the main episode release on October 10th to find out.

Reunion with Sasha

Gone was the worried expression she’d worn watching Yamato enter port just moments before. Sasha burst into the room with a beaming smile and threw herself at Kodai. The change was so drastic it made you wonder if she was someone else entirely. Actually, this attitude is exactly like Yurisha’s in 2199.

She too acted with a carefree, innocent attitude, freely roaming Yamato‘s decks. Yet beneath that surface, she was actually using her behavior to gauge others’ reactions and true feelings.

Considering how Yurisha cared for Sasha right up until the end in 2205, it’s possible that Yurisha regularly spoke with Sasha in their daily lives (though this wasn’t depicted in the main 2205 story). Through that interaction, Sasha’s temperament and personality might have become closer to her aunt Yurisha’s than to her mother Starsha’s.

While I wouldn’t say Sasha’s carefree attitude is entirely an act, there’s definitely an aspect where she deliberately interacts with Kodai and the others with an innocent demeanor to gauge their reactions or hide true feelings she’d rather not show. That said, judging by General Talan’s reaction, Sasha’s free-spirited side (much like her aunt Yurisha’s) is probably quite genuine.

Incidentally, the scene where Kodai, hugged by Sasha, almost calls her “Yuki” before quickly realizing it’s ‘Sasha’ is a well-crafted moment. It echoes Kodo mistakenly calling Sasha “Yuki” in the original movie while also effectively portraying the Kodai of the remake series, who judges others by their substance, not their appearance. It’s especially significant that he noticed this immediately, even though Sanada, who effectively raised Sasha and likely spent more time with her than Kodai, didn’t catch it right away. It shows that despite having limited time together, Kodai genuinely treated Sasha as family and took her seriously.

However, while Kodai and Sasha had a decent first encounter, judging from the main trailer, their relationship seems likely to sour a bit afterward. Why their relationship sours, and why it leads to Sasha tearfully saying, “Thank you, Uncle, for believing in me” seems poised to be Chapter 4’s biggest emotional payoff.

By the way, if Sanada’s statement is correct, then Niimi, who was abducted alongside Sasha…

For Niimi’s sake, I really hope there’s some explanation given for the reason behind Sasha’s sudden growth.

Meanwhile, on Earth…

Meanwhile, back on Earth, Kazan’s confession time begins. He drops a bombshell on Chief Todo and Serizawa, revealing that not all the explanations given so far about the discovery of the spacetime node were entirely true. The specific details aren’t revealed at the start of this episode and will have to wait for the main story, but honestly, given the reports from Yamato and the actions of the anti-Dezarium faction on Earth, cracks had already begun to show in the previous explanations. It feels like they’re just making course corrections now.

Indeed, the pure claim of “discovering a spacetime node connecting to the past” couldn’t explain the “paradox of patricide,” as Nanbu pointed out in the previous chapter. This could easily lead Earthlings, once they calm down, to start questioning, “Wait, isn’t that weird?” So, I suspect this explanation is meant to address that part (connecting to the line, “It had to be repeated”?).

What’s concerning is the attitude of Shino Todo, who is present. While Chief Todo and Serizawa wear puzzled expressions at Kazan’s words, she merely narrows her eyes slightly. This confirms she already knows the story Kazan is about to tell. However, she has kept her face down since this scene began, suggesting she might even know the story itself is a farce.
In the previous chapter, she hinted at taking significant action alongside Captain Kitano as a countermeasure against the anti-Dezarium faction. Perhaps Kazan’s current story is also part of that strategic maneuver.

Her lowered gaze might stem from tension stiffening her body, and her narrowed eyes at Kazan’s words could reveal her true thoughts: “It’s begun!”

Indeed, observing her portrayal here, she displays an impulsive nature uncharacteristic of an intelligence operative, with her inner thoughts frequently manifesting overtly in her demeanor. Considering this, perhaps we should pay closer attention to her reactions to Kazan’s upcoming speech rather than the speech’s content itself.

OCTOBER 8

Review + Analysis of Chapter 4 Preview Part 4

See the original post here

2205‘s Crowd Characters Make an Unexpected Return!

When Yamato arrives at Galman-Garmillas, two characters tease Tetsuo Kurita from the Engineering Department, who is overcome with emotion and shedding tears, saying, “Is this a place to cry?” Surprisingly, these two are the same characters who interacted with Tokugawa and Bando in Part A of Episode 1 of 2205.

Their only appearance in 2205 was this scene; they never showed up again in the main story. Honestly, I’d completely forgotten about them. But upon rewatching 2205, it was definitely them! Whoever first noticed this fact deserves serious respect!!

Incidentally, judging from their actions in 2205, it seems these two were originally assigned to Asuka or Hyuga, not Yamato. However, in the character introduction for Kurita Tetsuo currently available (as of October 8, 2025),

After his official commissioning, Kurita was taken to the asteroid Icarus by Yamazaki and Wakasa without any explanation. There, former Yamato Fleet members from his National Defense Academy class – Satoru Daimon, Shun Higashida, Miyu Nishio, and Karin Kikuchi – were also secretly assembled. Under Shiro Sanada’s command, all were engaged in the covert refitting of Yamato.

Therefore, it is believed that these two were assigned to Yamato at this time.

Presumably, members like Domon, who had boarded Yamato during the training voyage, were transferred to ships like Asuka or Hyuga as Operation DAD was being prepared. These two were likely assigned to Yamato as replacements for those transferred personnel.

Perhaps the names Satoru Daimon and Shun Higashida mentioned here refer to these two individuals.

In Operation DAD, Yamato was treated purely as a reserve force. In that sense, their assignment at this point could be seen as a result of them not being highly regarded (at least by Captain Kitano), unlike Domon and the others who were summoned to Asuka as elite personnel.

Still, even under those circumstances, you can’t help but think, “Well, at least they got assigned to Yamato, which they admired!”

While these two likely won’t feature much in the main story afterward, it’s a nice touch to learn the fates of these background characters in this way!

Did Nishio and Kikuchi actually appear too?

Incidentally, the names mentioned here – “Daimon,” “Higashida,” “Nishio,” ‘Kikuchi’ – are all members said to have boarded Yamato in the original Be Forever. It was unexpected to see them referenced in this manner. As mentioned above, the two who appeared this time are likely “Daimon” and “Higashida.” But then, will the remaining “Nishio” and “Kikuchi” actually appear?

This is purely my own speculation, but given their names, “Nishio” and ‘Kikuchi’ seem like they could be female. I suspect these two female characters, who had a surprisingly strong presence for crowd roles in 2205, might be the ones.

If that’s the case, given their portrayal in 2205, both might become involved in the 3199 story through connections to Kyozuka or Sasha. Especially the one on the left, nicknamed “Pony-chan,” was a character with quite a high level of attention in 2205. She’s a character I’m personally interested in, so I really hope she makes a reappearance.

Even Miki Saijo, who’s now a full-fledged quasi-regular, started out as little more than a background character with only a few brief cuts in Episode 7 of 2199. “Pony-chan” might just become the next Saijo!
