In this report, we examine the first three months of 1982.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun25\/055b01.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>January 10: <em>The Anime<\/em> Vol. 27<\/h3>\n<p>Yoshinobu Nishizaki himself came out swinging in the first article (outside the fan club magazine) that announced his plans for the coming year. Aritsune Toyota took the lead, writing a fresh set of story notes on January 16 and an overall assessment of the story on the 19th. <\/p>\n<p>Read his material <a href='https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault\/742'>here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This work was done in preparation for a three-day writer&#8217;s summit. Nishizaki and his 6-member core group gathered at a hot springs resort from the 28th to the 30th to hammer out the story once and for all. No topic was off-limits, every detail was subject to debate, and numerous paths were explored in this loosely-structured conversation. They emerged with an outline that differed in a few key areas, but was essentially the story that would end up on the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Complete transcripts of the entire summit were later published in the deluxe <em>Final Yamato<\/em> hardcover book. Its music was arranged by composer Shoetsu Kawasaki to fill side B. The next step was to wrangle and streamline all the ideas into a single narrative with all the dots connected. The <em>Animedia<\/em> article stood out for the inclusion of a Matsumoto &#8220;family tree&#8221; that depicted the interconnections of his many characters. It was also announced that a series of fan gatherings would be held in the summer, giving club members across the country a chance to participate.<\/p>\n<p>In a set of reader predictions for what would happen in <em>Final Yamato<\/em>, one contributor opined that if Captain Okita was actually revived (a concept already announced), &#8220;criticism of <em>Yamato<\/em> will increase even more, and the aversion to <em>Yamato<\/em> will continue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Read it all <a href='https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault\/764'>here<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/br><\/p>\n<h3>Also spotted in February<\/h3>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun25\/055b10.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Star Blazers Fandom Report issue 5<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A name change filled the header for this issue, which ran 6 pages and shared the latest news that was known at the time, including a description of <em>Star Blazers<\/em> merchandising in Italy.<\/p>\n<p>Read it <a href='https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault\/566'>here<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun25\/055b11.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Starlog No. 57<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It was announced in the Fandom Report that members had contributed enough money to fund a second classified ad in <em>Starlog<\/em>, and it appeared as promised. This was not yet a screenplay, but was instead a story treatment with suggestions for dialogue and action to work out the mechanics of each sequence.<\/p>\n<p>Four drafts of the manuscript were written throughout the month: the first draft on March 2, the second on March 9, the third on March 12, and the fourth on March 17. Behind one of the strangest <em>Gundam<\/em> covers ever, <em>The Anime<\/em> offered a little bit of <em>Yamato<\/em> content as an antidote. It gave Hiroshi Miyagawa a chance to work out some theme melodies for <em>Final Yamato<\/em>, and gave his son Akira a chance to arrange scores for the orchestra to play (another step on his path to taking up the baton in later years). The album would be released on May 21.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun25\/055b17.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>March 30: <em>Leiji Matsumoto&#8217;s Selected Masterpieces<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Asahi Sonorama published this 282-page hardcover compendium of favorite chapters from Matsumoto&#8217;s best-known manga titles including <em>Sexaroid, Galaxy Express, Battlefield, Gun Frontier, Otoko Oidon<\/em>, and more. <em>Yamato<\/em> was represented by the spinoff tale <em>Eternal Story of Jura<\/em> (read it <a href='https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault\/172'>here<\/a>).
