The following manga was posted on Twitter in January 2024 by its creator, who goes by the online name Yaya Yanoya. Here’s what they have to say about it:<\/p>\n

In commemoration of the 4k viewing of Farewell to Yamato<\/em>, I will revive the second manga I drew before. It’s a fantasy scene during the return to Earth from planet Telezart. I wasn’t very good, so I’d like to redraw it someday, but I just think about it a lot. At the end of Farewell<\/em>, I cried when I saw the orange figures of Space Cavalry men on the bridge. It’s still my favorite movie, including the ending. I know many things have been said, but I think it was a film that depicted what it means to stand up to despair.<\/span><\/p>\n

I had the opportunity to re-watch Farewell<\/em> in the cinema about 20 years ago, and during the battle on the planet Telezart, I thought, “Maybe this is Saito’s first battle?” When I watched it many times on video, I noticed Sanada’s reaction when the Space Cavalry came on board Yamato<\/em>. When the story progresses and Sanada offers to accompany them on their mission to infiltrate the City Empire, Saito’s expression made me think, “There must have been some kind of interaction between them.”<\/span><\/p>\n

This manga exists on the basis of many hints that the filmmakers scattered throughout the film. To all the staff and cast who created this wonderful film, my endless admiration and gratitude.<\/span><\/p>\n

1. What was your first Yamato<\/em> experience?<\/span><\/p>\n

I watched reruns of the first TV series when I was in elementary school.<\/p>\n

2. What is your favorite aspect of Yamato<\/em>?<\/span><\/p>\n

The human-like characters, each with their own diverse pasts, who develop mutual understanding during the voyage. My favorite character has always been Sanada-san since I first saw the series, but as I get older, I find myself sympathizing more and more with Captain Okita and Chief Engineer Tokugawa.<\/p>\n

3. Are you a Yamato<\/em> collector?<\/span><\/p>\n

I own several books and cels. Mostly from the first series and Farewell to Yamato<\/em>.<\/p>\n

4. What is your most treasured Yamato<\/em> item?<\/span><\/p>\n

Cels of Sanada and Saito.<\/p>\n

5. What are your favorite drawing tools?<\/span><\/p>\n

For analog, I like colored pencils, and for digital, I like SAI software.<\/p>\n

6. Where can your work be seen?<\/span><\/p>\n

Not for Yamato<\/em>, but we each enjoy and appreciate our favorite anime and manga.<\/p>\n

I have been addicted to growing roses for the past few years. They’re having a hard time surviving the heat wave.<\/p>\n

9. Are you involved in Yamato<\/em> activities with other fans?<\/span><\/p>\n

I exchange impressions with like-minded friends via social networking sites and e-mail. It’s a benefit of the Internet age that I can get to know and interact with people in remote areas.<\/p>\n

10. What do you hope to see in a future Yamato<\/em> anime?<\/span><\/p>\n

If possible, I would like to see the continuation of Yamato Resurrection<\/em>.<\/p>\n

11. What is your favorite anime after Yamato<\/em>?<\/span><\/p>\n

Space Runaway Ideon, Future Boy Conan, Gauche the Cellist<\/em> directed by Isao Takahata, Mai Mai Miracle, In This Corner of the World<\/em>, and Blue Giant<\/em>. I’m sorry to list so many, but all of them are wonderful works, and it’s hard to choose just one.<\/p>\n

12. What would you like to say to Yamato<\/em> fans around the world?<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m glad that you share my love and passion for Yamato<\/em>!<\/p>\n

13. What should everyone know about Japan and its people?<\/span><\/p>\n

There are many different national characteristics in the world, such as “a country that loves to dance” or “a country that loves to sing,” but I sometimes think that Japan is a “country that loves to draw pictures.” Of course, like other countries, there are many different types of people.<\/p>\n
