In February 2020 a new story was announced with the working title of Space Battleship Yamato Next: Star Blazers Lambda<\/em>. It launched as a manga series and ran for just over two years. Here, we round up everything attached to the project including the entire story, author interviews, design documents, and more.<\/p>\n

The word first went out in February 2020 from the head office of Yamato Crew that a completely new story was heading our way under the working title of Space Battleship Yamato Next: Star Blazers Lambda<\/em>. It would be a manga by Ryuko Azuma, published online and free for all. Following in Gundam<\/em>\u2019s footsteps, it takes place in its own world, separate and distinct from the Yamato<\/em> we know. The series launched in June 2020 and came to its conclusion with 28 chapters in August 2022. <\/p>\n

The story had very little overlap with the Space Battleship Yamato<\/em> we all know and love, and when Exec Producer Shoji Nishizaki first discussed the project he admitted that it was going to be very different but that he had faith in the author to tell a good story. And Azuma has certainly acquitted himself as an intelligent, progressive storyteller even if his work turns out to be Yamato<\/em> in name only.<\/p>\n
