Since it opened on a Friday rather than the customary Saturday, the &#8220;big&#8221; stage presentation with voice actors took place the next morning.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, a smaller presentation was held at the Shinjuku Piccadilly Theater on Friday morning featuring three familiar faces: Director Nobuyoshi Habara, Writer Harutoshi Fukui, and Sound Director Tomohiro Yoshida. The photos above were published on Twitter by the <a href='https:\/\/twitter.com\/new_yamato_2199'><em>Yamato 2202<\/em> Production Committee<\/a>, and a transcript was published in June at the official <em>2202<\/em> website; it will be presented in our next report.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a75.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>May 25: Chapter 5 theater Blu-ray<\/h3>\n<p>The theater-exclusive edition of Chapter 5 on Blu-ray arrived right on time with the extras fans have become accustomed to. The disc itself is the same as the edition scheduled for release to the general public on June 22. The bonus features consist of a Chapter 4 story digest, non-credit ending, trailers and commercials, and staff\/cast commentary on two episodes.<\/p>\n<p>See the 12-page insert booklet <a href='https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault\/chap5book'>here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a76.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once again, slipcase art is by Makoto Kobayashi. The fleet lineup on the back, while using designs created for <em>Yamato Resurrection<\/em>, turned out to have more presence in <em>2202<\/em> than expected, and this is likely to continue into Chapters 6 and 7.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a77.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The exclusive bonus booklets both pertained to Episode 18 (the last on the disc); a 34-page script book by Harutoshi Fukui and a 180-page storyboard book by Kia Asamiya with cover art by Character Designer Nobuteru Yuuki.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a78.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>May 25: Chapter 5 program book<\/h3>\n<p>The full-color 44-page program for Chapter 5 contained the customary fire hose of text and images with an introduction by Harutoshi Fukui, story synopses, character and mecha guides (a true highlight for this chapter), another gorgeous centerspread by the great Naoyuki Katoh (above right), and a new interview with Mecha Designer Junichiro Tamamori.<\/p>\n<p>See the book from cover to cover <a href='https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault\/chap5program'>here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a41.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>May 25: Theater handouts, week 1<\/h3>\n<p>This first set contained two animation layouts and one mecha design in a replica of an animation production envelope. There was also a bonus item\u2026<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a42.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>May 25: <em>Yamato 2202: Distant Journey<\/em> game flyer<\/h3>\n<p>For the first time, a promotional flyer was included in the theater handout envelope. It announced the approach of an entirely new <em>2202<\/em> game called <em>Distant Journey<\/em>. There have been many <em>Yamato<\/em> mobile games, but this is the first browser game, which may increase its accessibility outside Japan.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a66.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What made the flyer a point of special interest for collectors was that there were three versions of it, each displaying different art on the back. All it takes is one look to realize that no matter how accessible the game proves to be, the artwork alone will be worth our attention.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a43.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>May 25: Chapter 5 theater goods<\/h3>\n<p>Once again, a huge variety of products accompanied the release of the film, bringing new apparel, art and trinkets to delighted collectors. A second key art image was released on this day to join the first. Both were available to those who purchased advance tickets. While the image at left was on the clear file shown earlier in this report, the image at right (painted by <a href='http:\/\/nao.heavy.jp\/main.html'>Naochika Morishita<\/a>) was on a poster sold with advance tickets in theaters. See enlargements of both images at the end of this page.<\/p>\n<p>And what, exactly, does the poster depict? Taking their place on the stage were Koichi Yamadera (Abeldt Dessler), Hiroshi Kamiya (Klaus Keyman), Takeshi Uchiyama (Miru), Ayahi Takagaki (Saki Toudo), Tomoyo Kurosawa (Mina Ichinose), Eriko Nakamura (Mikage Kiryu), Director Nobuyoshi Habara, and Series Writer Harutoshi Fukui. They talked about moments related to the episode subtitle <em>Purgatory<\/em>. Ms. Nakamura served as the host.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a38.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Ayahi Takagaki (Saki Toudo), Tomoyo Kurosawa (Mina Ichinose)<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Mr. Kamiya reacts to the term &#8220;elder&#8221; from Ms. Kurosawa<\/h3>\n<p>The first story about the production came from Director Habara: &#8220;It was hell rather than purgatory.&#8221; When he invoked the title <em>Purgatory<\/em>, the venue was filled with laughter. Next, Ms. Takagaki and Ms. Kurosawa, who both appear for the first time, talked about the joy of performing with many senior voice actors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was so caught up in the cool of my elders (seniors)\u2026I still watched their performances even when my turn was over.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hearing that, Mr. Kamiya said, &#8220;Which elder am I?&#8221; and Ms. Kurosawa got flustered. Ms. Nakamura responded, &#8220;Please tell me where the line is!&#8221; which worsened this great pinch!<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Kurosawa countered well with, &#8220;Everyone looks so young.&#8221; The audience greatly enjoyed this conversation.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a39.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><br \/>\n<em>Takeshi Uchiyama (Miru), Hiroshi Kamiya (Klaus Keyman)<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>The audience burst into laughter at Mr. Yamadera unintended gag!<\/h3>\n<p>Mr. Uchiyama, who first appeared in Chapter 4, also talked about the voice recording. He was sitting next to Kenichi Suzumura (Shima) at the time. He shouted &#8220;warp, warp&#8221; loudly, but also showed his reliability as a senior when he explained the concepts and relationships of <em>Yamato<\/em> to Mr. Uchiyama.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kamiya talked about the difficulty of performing the character of Keyman, and the pleasure of interacting with seniors, especially Koichi Yamadera. Yamadera responded, &#8220;I also enjoyed it, though I sometimes felt like a grandfather debating with my grandchild.&#8221; When this comment popped out, the audience laughed loudly.<\/p>\n<p>It was pointed out that Yamadera also played Dessler when he was younger (in <em>Yamato 2199<\/em>), and when Director Habara heard his voice while looking at the monitor, he didn&#8217;t seem to understand that it was Yamadera&#8217;s voice. &#8220;I had to work hard to do it back then,&#8221; Yamadera said. Mr. Fukui asked, &#8220;Does Dessler come easier for you now, then?&#8221; Again, the theater filled with laughter and applause at a gag Mr. Yamadera did not intend.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a40.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, Kamiya, Yamadera, and Director Habara gave a message to the audience on behalf of everyone on stage.<\/p>\n<p>Hiroshi Kamiya: &#8220;Thank you very much for coming today. Keyman finally started to take action\u2026though he&#8217;s currently sitting in a cell. Up until now, his feelings have been blurred, and I still can&#8217;t tell you where he goes from here. I&#8217;m really looking forward to it, so thank you for your continued support! Thank you very much for today!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Koichi Yamadera: &#8220;I&#8217;m in the same place as Mr. Kamiya. I don&#8217;t know what lies ahead for Dessler. Anyway, I&#8217;m excited about what&#8217;s going to happen next, like all the voice actors. I pay attention to the fact that I work with truly amazing actors and a wonderful staff. Thank you for coming today and for your support in the future. [As Dessler]: You have my extreme gratitude. You may have noticed in the last of the credits that one of our fellow staff members passed away during the production, Art Director Hiroki Takagi. It&#8217;s a workbook showcasing a variety of fonts all using the words <em>Saraba Space Battleship Yamato<\/em> as a subject. Aly2203 remembered encountering this book in junior high and was amazed to find it in a used bookstore.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ourstarblazers.com\/vault-images\/jun18\/316a68.JPG\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Mystery documents<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Twitter user <a href='https:\/\/twitter.com\/2202tsudamizu'>Kuro2202<\/a> shared this photo of previously-unknown artifacts found at an uncle&#8217;s house. They cover <em>Yamato<\/em> news from the original production years, but their formatting doesn&#8217;t match anything from the official fan club.
