This arrangement of The Scarlet Scarf with lonely pizzicato strings and woodwinds is impressive. It was first used in the 1977 feature film and heard again in episode 3 of Yamato III.

42. Mystery of Space
This was used for the scene in which Dessler bursts into laughter as Gamilas is destroyed before his eyes. In the feature film, the BGM version from Series 1 was used. This version was arranged for strings and appeared on the original Yamato 2 BGM collection.

43. Yamato rises!!
This was used for the scene in which Captain Okita thanks everyone for their service as they approach Iscandar. The BGM version from Series 1 was used in the 1977 feature film, and this arrangement was recorded in stereo. It appeared on the original Yamato 2 BGM collection.

44. Mysterious Yamato (non-synthi version)
This was used for the scene in which Yamato returns to Earth. The BGM version from Series 1 was used in the 1977 feature film, and this stereo version was done for The New Voyage. The version with synthesizer is included in the New Voyage BGM collection.

Bonus tracks from the Farewell to Yamato stereo version

45. This stereo version was included in the original Yamato 2 BGM collection.

46. Appearance and attack (M-54)
This was used for the scene in which the imperial city is fully revealed for the first time. Ending bridge collection 1 (5 pieces)

Bonus Track from the Farewell to Yamato Drama LP [story album]

35. M-5 (2)
Although this track was recorded for the Farewell feature film, it was first used on the Drama LP. The track was used immediately after Yamato launches from Earth. Cosmo Tigers arrive from the moon base and enjoy a laugh with Kodai.

Bonus Tracks from the Yamato II Compilation Volume BGM

This block was recorded in 1978 for Farewell, but was first heard in the TV special Yamato II ~ Into Eternity, a compilation movie broadcast on October 6, 1979. Ten BGM tracks were used there for the first time. I should mention that these tracks occupied about 1/5 of the entire BGM in that case. Sound supervisor Atsushi Tashiro made a point of actively using them, and listening to all ten reveals the outline of the story. Because this project was produced after The New Voyage, more of these tracks can be found on the New Voyage BGM Collection.

36. M-6 (1)
This track was used at the beginning of the compilation movie with Kodai in the undersea dock, for the the scene where Yamato‘s gantry lock is removed. It comes from the second half of the Prelude in Symphonic Suite Yamato, and was also used in Yamato III.

37. M-28 (2)
This was used from the opening narration to the scene in which Yamato receives an SOS. It was re-arranged from a track titled Across the Beautiful Ocean from BGM Part 1 and which appears on the BGM Part 2 album as Iscandar.

38. M-29 (1)
This music was used in the scene where Shima takes Teresa on board Yamato. It begins calmly with harpsichord and strings and rises gradually. It appears on the BGM Part 2 album as Great Love.

39. M-36A (2)
After Shima notices that Teresa has left Yamato, this music was used for the scene in which he listens to her voice recording. It is an arrangement of Great Love with strings, woodwinds, brass, and harp. It was also used when Teresa appears before Shima floating in space, and gives him a blood transfusion.

40. M-66 (5)
Teresa at last demonstrates her power to the looming Comet Empire, and this track was used when she risks her life to engulf the White Comet with Telezart. It is a symphonic poem using themes from I Remember You and the Yamato theme.

41. M-EX18 (4)
After the fury of the White Comet is suddenly unleashed on the Earth fleet, this main theme of the imperial city is used for the scene in which Yamato‘s engine fails and forces it off the battle line. It was also used in the stereo version of Farewell to Yamato made in 1983. It appeared as Battle Theme on the BGM Part 2 album.

42. M-71 (5)
The imperial city is revealed after the gas body of the White Comet is hit by the Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun, and this track was used for the scene where the Earth fleet is damaged by rotary missiles. The spectacular brass and tympani chords give an impression of the enemy’s overwhelming wonder.

43. M-24 (4)
This was used for the scene of Zordar’s communication with Yamato, and he laughs triumphantly as he begins bombarding Earth. It fully expresses the overwhelming power of the giant Dreadnought. It is an up-tempo variation of Imperial City that includes a pipe organ. It appeared on the BGM Part 2 album as Threat of Space.

44. M-2 (1)
As the only one left on Yamato, Kodai decides on a suicide attack against the Dreadnought. Yuki appears as if she foresaw it, and this track was used as they hold hands in the captain’s seat while Yamato advances. The composition centers around The Universe That Spreads Into Infinity from the Series 1 BGM with piano, strings, and percussion. It appeared on the BGM Part 2 album as Mystery of Space.

45. M-77 (5)
This was used from the scene of Teresa’s invaluable sacrifice up to the ending. It is a variation of Great Love. Although the end of the track was not heard in the compilation film, the extended strings finale is impressive.

1978-VI Space Battleship Yamato 2 BGM Collection Part 2

1. Ending bridge collection 2 (4 pieces)

Bonus Track from The New Voyage BGM

37. M-51 (5)
This track was recorded for Farewell but not used, instead being heard for the first time in The New Voyage when it was broadcast July 31, 1979. Dessler’s battle carrier rushes into the muzzle of Goruba, and this track was used from the scene in which Dessler demands that Yamato fire the Wave-Motion Gun at him until the point when the firing is stopped. It was originally prepared for Yuki’s death scene in Farewell, and was published on the New Voyage BGM Collection CD under the title Starsha’s Thoughts.

Bonus Track from the Yamato III BGM

This block of six tracks was recorded for Farewell, but they were first used in the Yamato III TV series which made its broadcast debut on October 11, 1980.

38. Scarlet Scarf (5)
This was used in Episode 3 after Yamato launches and the crew gives a last salute to Earth. It is an impressive arrangement of the song with pizzicato of strings and a lonely woodwind. It was also used for the stereo version of the first Yamato movie, made in 1983.

39. M-8 (1)
This was used in Episode 10 for the scene where Captain Dan comes to the bridge to say goodbye. It is a re-arrangement of Hope for Tomorrow from Symphonic Suite Yamato. It is a rarely-heard track, only ever used in this one instance.

40. M-9 (1)
This was used for the scene of Kodai and Domon talking in the ship’s galley in Episode 14. It is another re-arrangement of Hope for Tomorrow with slow strings. Another rare track, used only once.

41. M-21 (2)
This was used in Episode 20 for the scene in which Dessler waits for the first news communication from Kodai after arriving at Planet Phantom. It is a variant of Dessler’s Bolero, which appears on the Yamato 2 BGM Collection Part 1. A tambourine enters at the midpoint and the track ends on a grand scale. It was only used in this one instance.

42. M-30 (2)
This was used near the end of Episode 21 in which Lieutenant General Gustav’s fleet warps for Planet Phantom, which has proven to be a living entity. It is a re-arrangement of a track from the Series 1 BGM and was only used here.

43. M-31B (5)
This was used in Episode 5 for the scene in which Captain Ram leaves Yamato, and again in Episode 6 when Domon discovers Hirata was killed. It was heard again in Episode 10 when Ageha witnesses the last moments of Captain Dan. It gives a deep impression for the loss of supporting characters with a slow, sorrowful march of strings.

Bonus Track from the Farewell to Yamato MV [Music Video]

44. M-11, 28 (1)
This track was recorded for the Farewell feature film in 1978, but was first used for the Farewell MV, which was released on October 21, 1984 (and reissued on LD November 21). It is a re-arrangement of the second half of Birth from Symphonic Suite Yamato.

1979-I The New Voyage Music Collection

1. Yamato New Voyage
2. Goruba chord
Although it was recorded for The New Voyage telefeature, it was first used on the Drama album for the scene in which the enemy fleet breaks through the mines launched by Dessler’s ships and begins their invasion of Iscandar.

Bonus Tracks from the Yamato II compilation movie BGM

This block was recorded for The New Voyage, but used instead in the Yamato II compilation movie, a TV special broadcast October 6, 1979. Although the special was set chronologically before The New Voyage, it included five tracks from The New Voyage BGM.

21. Teresa Encounter
This music was used in the scene where Kodai and others meet Teresa deep inside the Planet Telezart. It was originally conceived as a new theme for Iscandar. The beautiful harp and strings are impressive.

22. Time of Decision
This was used after Andromeda is beaten by the Comet Empire, and Earth is seized by a global panic. It is partially a re-arrangement of the Yamato theme, filled with despair. It was based on Yamato Meditation, which is included in the New Voyage Music Collection.

Bonus Track from the Be Forever Yamato BGM

23. Parting (Alternate Version)
This excellent piece was used in Be Forever Yamato for the scene in which Sasha sees Yamato off on its departure from the false Earth. It is a different take of Farewell – Beloved One from the New Voyage Music Collection. Regrettably, the only known mix at the moment is monaural, but that was the version used in the story.

Bonus Tracks from the Yamato III BGM

This block of five tracks was recorded for The New Voyage, but was used instead in the Yamato III TV series, which began broadcasting on October 11, 1980.

24. The New Voyage (instrumental)
This was used in the latter half of Episode 4, for the scene where Hirata prepares lemon tea for Kodai after his target practice. It is an instrumental version of Yamato!! The New Voyage.

25. Endless Voyage
This arrangement of the Yamato theme symbolizes a voyage of deepening confusion. The feeling of rhythm beginning with brass in the first half takes an impressive turn into a sense of suspense in the second half. It was first used in Episode 5 when Yamato launches as an escort for Rajendora, and was used again in episodes 8, 10, and 17.

26. Underwear March (up-tempo version )
This was used in the first half of Episode 11, for the scene in which Analyzer checks out trouble with engine circuitry. It is a variation of Underwear March heard in track 7 with a faster tempo.

27. Quiet Dessler
This was used in the first half of Episode 17 in which Dessler visits the bridge of Yamato and Kodai explains the reason for Yamato‘s mission. It was based on Dessler – Three forms -Anguish, which can be heard on the New Voyage Music Collection. Although Dessler once burned for revenge on Yamato, his friendship with Kodai, love for Starsha, and longing for Gamilas grew through the war. The entire depth of Dessler is heard.

28. Endless Voyage (latter part only)
This is a variation of the second half of track 25, and was used in Episodes 12, 17, and 20. It was often heard at the end of an episode to create an impressive conclusion.

Bonus Track from the Space Battleship Yamato stereo version

29. Mystical Yamato (non-synthi version)
In order to release the first Yamato movie as a VHD video disc in April 1983, the sound was re-dubbed in stereo. At that time, simulated stereo processing was performed on the music, and other cues were replaced with stereo recordings made later. In the original theatrical release, the scene at the end in which Yamato communicates with Earth during its return originally used music from Series 1 BGM. This arrangement of the Yamato theme recorded for The New Voyage was used in the stereo version. The version with synthesizer is included in the New Voyage BGM collection.

1980-I Be Forever Yamato Music Collection Part 1

1.
